A Personal Vision of a Good School-by Roland S. Barth

(and of me, I dare say.) We are on the journey!

A community of learners where:

a.     Teachers and principals talk with each other about teaching and learning and:

                                          i.    Observe one another engaged in daily activities.

ii.    Share their knowledge of their craft with one another.

iii.    Actively help one another become more skillful.

b.    Students and staff are encouraged to take risks.

                                          i.    New and unusual are viewed as signs of life and growth.

ii.    Learning seldom occurs while passively sitting still.

c.     Students and staff come to school because they want to not because they have to.

d.    All school staff view their work as vital to the success of all.

e.     School practices are continuously evolving.

                                          i.    They are always subject to continuous examination and review.

f.     Our school is a fun and a funny place.

                                          i.    Humor can be the glue that binds an assorted group of individuals into a learning community.
